Hi everyone,

Today we launched Walden, the full rewrite of OpenAlex. It’s now the default dataset for the API and UI.

The schema hasn’t changed, but data quality and coverage have improved a lot — better reference parsing, OA detection, language identification, licenses, topics, and more. We’ve also added 190M new works from DataCite and institutional repositories.

You can compare old vs. new data in OREO (OpenAlex Rewrite Eval Overview), and read the full release notes for details. If you need the old version, it’s still available with the data-version=1 URL param for the rest of this month.

Full snapshots of both the old and new datasets are available tomorrow in the usual way.

Thanks for all your feedback during beta...keep it coming!

Onward,
Jason
