OA status of SSRN items

Dear community,

for my institution half of the SSRN DOIs have an Open Access status of GREEN and the other half CLOSED, whereas I would expect that they would be fully GREEN. I dont know though how this ratio would be in the full OpenAlex database....

Does someone have an explanation for this ?

Hi Ivo, 

OpenAlex apparently counts all of SSRN as closed (perhaps because downloading anything from SSRN calls up a login-page even though the paper still downloads in the background)- ask me what I think of that tactic ;-) ). 

The green OA records are thus those that are found OA elsewhere. For OpenAlex records from 2023 in SSRN, this is the breakdown of repository domains for the 15.5% that is found as green OA:
