Dear community,

I am reaching out to seek clarification regarding the methodology OpenAlex uses to distinguish between published articles and review (preprint) articles in its database.

Specifically, I would like to understand the criteria or attributes that OpenAlex relies on to classify these two types of scholarly works. For instance:

  • How does OpenAlex identify review articles, particularly if they are published in journals that do not exclusively publish reviews?
  • Are there specific metadata fields or external sources that are used for this classification?
  • Also please tell me with which filter I can only see papers in journals with q1 and q2 impact factor
