hello, I am new to the mathematics forum and the reason I came over is
because I am trying to find out what overlap game theory and abstract
algebra have with each other, if any, and if they can be used together
somewhat, tied to each other; who is involved in this, i.e. researches
it, publishes journals or textbooks devoted to it, teaches it... does
anyone have any suggestions about this? I am not too knowledgeable in
either field and am really trying to plan my future education, only.

Hi, Nathaniel:

Abstract algebra seems to me a much clearer point of
reference than "game theory". You will find many books,
classes, and journals devoted to abstract algebra topics.

Game theory as a topic is treated from a variety of
perspectives: operations research, evolutionary biology,
political science, etc. At any rate you would probably
want to plan a graduate program in mathematics around
a base of core subjects, including abstract algebra, and
pursue "game theory" as a reading subject or applied
mathematics course.

If you are looking for readings to undertake immediately,
it might be helpful to explain a bit more what background
you now have.

regards, chip

Ah. my mistake you are totally right... I am interested in game theory
for the social sciences - for economics, psychology, political
science, sociology.... and if I understand rightly game theory is much
less technical and complex than abstract algebra.... but always you
find two fields can be made to overlap in some way i.e. econometrics
was born when traditional economics discovered regression analysis,
linear regression.... so I am on the internet trying to see... if
anyone has ever even tried to apply some ideas from abstract algebra,
or even say group theory, to economic group theory say
