My co-chair, Tsutomu Miyashita, of DNP Digitalcom, and I invite experts to prepare a position paper for the ISMAR2012 workshop on Indoor Positioning and Navigation for Mobile AR following the guidelines below and to send it via e-mail on or before June 26, 2012.

=================== [OBJECTIVES]========================

The purposes of this workshop are to bring together experts who are researching and/or implementing AR with/for both outdoor and indoor navigation with those who are experts in indoor positioning in order to exchange learnings and:

    • document the state of the art in the field of
          indoor positioning for mobile AR users,
    • through the discussions during the workshop,
          to advance the current state of the art as well as
    • identify the new research challenges at
          the intersection of these fields.

Through this workshop, participants specializing in indoor positioning will have an opportunity to quickly gather the user requirements for mobile AR for indoor navigation. In addition, researchers and developers of AR will deepen their understanding of the state of the art of indoor positioning and navigation.

The results of this workshop will be widely applicable to commercial, industrial, government and research domains.

Papers must contribute to the knowledge of the field of indoor positioning and navigation for Mobile Augmented Reality, but not to the exclusion of positioning and navigation for outdoor use cases.

Position papers may describe proposals for:

    • indoor positioning technologies,
    • data models for indoor orientation,
    • architectures for indoor navigation,
    • blending techniques for indoor and outdoor navigation,
    • mobile AR indoor positioning and navigation prototypes,
    • results of studies of indoor positioning and navigation
          with mobile AR and
    • other related topics.

For this workshop, position papers 4 pages or shorter in length should be prepared using the TCGV paper template for ISMAR2012 available from http://www.cs.sfu.ca/~vis/Tasks/camera.html and saved in PDF.
