Design Goals of the new UI

  • Be android 2.2 and Above compatible.
  • Follow Holo design guidelines and Holo colour palette.
  • Scale across form factors and orientations.
  • Flatten the navigation hierarchy(The current app requires you to navigate through multiple activities even to accomplish even simple tasks. I want to reduce the number of navigation steps as much as possible).
  • Reduce the use of progress dialogs and instead use progress indicatiors on the activity itself(Like google play and other google apps).
  • Use as many framework components as possible.

These are just very rough mockups and my drawing is not very good. Please comment for any clarification.

Some Other Usefull links to get an Idea of the UI

Staggered Grid View Example UI. Also Pintrest uses staggered grid view among others. It allows you to scale the UI accord to space and Utilize space better.

The sliding drawer example. It allows us to scale as well as keep the context of what was clicked intact to reach that view.

First Image is how it would be for phone and second image for tablets as its just a click away with the thumb on tablets. There is no point taking the whole width on tablet. This UI patter was suggested by a google engineer Romain Nurik.

Also I was thinking that the first time the user opens the app we can use a transparent activity telling him to select a server.
Something like how the first time in ICS and above you open boot your phone and land on home screen or app drawer.
