I'd like to propose we schedule a board meeting for January. Based on
people's preference, we can do this either face to face in the Bay
area (provided someone will host) or via a video chat. I'd suggest we
carve out at least four hours for the meeting, though it will likely
take less time.

Please take a look at http://doodle.com/z8c4727si9fv8cnf to indicate
your availability.

Thanks,

David

I like that idea. We will get more done that way. I'll join you in person in
the Bay Area or electronically.

I'd like to see proposed agenda items before scheduling a meeting. No agenda items, no need for a meeting. And length of meeting should be based on actual agenda items not a 4+ hour minimum. -t

My items:

* Discuss goals for 2010, prioritize them, and figure out ways to resource them.
* Discuss how we want to position the OWF in relation to other organizations such as the IETF, W3C, ISOC, etc.
* Discuss the growing gap between the foundation name, the community expectations, and our deliverables.

Thanks,

EHL

Sounds reasonable.

Thus Doodle'd.

I can try to host as well if we want somewhere in the Valley.

Tantek, if I'm going to drive 3 hours to get to a meeting in the Bay Area,
it better last 4 hours and include lunch. :-) And it better be worth the
drive and the time spent, so I agree we need a good agenda in advance. At
this stage of our involvement, I much prefer 4 hours in person rather than a
phone conference, despite the long drive, if only to improve our group
dynamics. We're trying to figure out what to be when we grow up.

+1 to Larry's sentiment and to Eran's proposed agenda.

If anything, the point of the meeting should be: what do what want 2010 to look like for the OWF, what are we going to commit to for the first 3 and 6 months of the year, and who's going to be held responsible for what?

Also, to someone's earlier point, I propose we add two additional agenda items:

1. OWF Budget
2. Fundraising

So far 6 board members indicated their availability and we don’t have a time everyone can attend.

We’re looking at Friday 1/29 (best option with 7 members out of 8 who voted).

Brady – any chance you can make it by phone or video chat if not in person?

Tantek – will this date work for you?

Definitely video or phone. Unfortunately, I'll be in Vegas at the time otherwise I would definitely be there in person.

Eran,
I have blocked out 2010-029 for the OWF board meeting if the SF area (SF preferred if possible). The currently proposed agenda items make sense to me, and I agree that many of them will benefit from in-person discussion. Looking forward to it. -Tantek

Thanks Tantek!

Looks like we are set for 1/29. Since everyone picked both morning and afternoon sessions, I would suggest we leave it up to the host to decide. Can we get some offers to host in SF first given more people will be coming from there?

Based on the agenda and people's availability, should we consider
blocking off more than 4 hours for the meeting?

Or if not attend in person, which I can appreciate may be logistically impossible for our generous host, then at least open a public bridge line that people can listen in on, maybe with an irc backchannel.   In the unlikely event that we need to discuss something privately, then we can do that in a brief and clearly delineated executive session.

As a non-bay-area guy, I'd appreciate an IRC backchannel - and am +1
for having an open meeting (within the physical limits of the hosts,
of course).

I currently have a room which can fit about 20 people comfortably.

It's also easy to do a phone conference from it.  IRC backchannel is also possible but with only one projector means people could have their heads buried in laptops instead of paying attention in the room.

That's fine with me. I just need to know who is coming if you don't
want to sign a visitor NDA. Stragglers would then need to.

Alas, I'll be in Chicago and won't be able to make it.

Bummer!

David - Just want to be clear. If we've RSVP'd, we do not need to
sign an NDA. Is that right?

Thanks again for hosting.

Why ask visitors to sign an NDA?  I thought Facebook was making all user data public now anyway.

(Zing!)

On a related note, is there anyone who can volunteer to handle the logistics of getting a public audio bridge and the IRC channel set up by Friday?  If no one volunteers I'm happy to help.

I think that you've misunderstood the privacy changes we've made. :)

I'm happy to provide a phone, but don't think I have a conference number anymore.
