Dear Friends,
I am pleased to tell you that I have been retained through the Open Source Software Institute (OSSI) to support the Assistant Secretary of Defense (Networks & Information Integration -- NII), Chief Information Officer the CIO of the US Department of Defense (DOD), with DOD's open source and open standards activities. This is in addition to—not instead of—my other activities, including as member of and counsel to Apache Software Foundation, member of the board of directors of Open Web Foundation, and lots of other activities with other clients of Rosenlaw & Einschlag.
Ethics law applying to attorneys requires that I inform you of this potential conflict of interest. However, I do not expect any actual conflict of interest. Encouraging the US government to use and create open source software so my other clients can share it, and vice versa, seems like win-win to me now.
Please let me know if you have any concerns.
Best,
/Larry
P.S. The U.S. DOD is but one of my clients, and not yet even a large part of the practice of Rosenlaw & Einschlag. We are always looking for other opportunities. :-)
