I think that's a great idea.
Personally though, I think my own place is to stay out of actual
operations. It simply makes me too big of a target, when I can better
add value in the realm of thought.
The safest thing I can do is license the code to interested parties, so
they can run operations without my direct involvement. (Of course, I
will provide support to everyone on the group... This is an open source
project after all.)
Any licensing fees that are brought in that way can then be plowed back
into the project, making the new value available to all, under the GNU
license.

Unfortunately I have ventures already in life, and I don't have time to
experiment on the business side with any experimental "new ventures", so
I am trying to give value to the cause in the best way that I can.
(Though my thoughts.) This is better for everybody in the long run, but
that means that other people have to be involved.
