SPLIT Function Query in Java

Hello Community,

I am having one QS. Why can't we use the SPLIT function for DOT operator? eg "something.value".split(".")

For this we have to use it like "something.value".split("\\.") This operator is working fine with contains, replace. 

Then what is the reason that we can't use it with split?
