http://www.techrepublic.com/article/project-sputnik-aims-to-woo-mac-and-windows-users-to-linux/?ftag=TRE475558a&bhid=227176373664110

Talks about project sputnic, Dell working with Canonical first to make high end laptops that come with Linux on em, but more importantly to make good
Linux drivers that come out with the hardware, not months or longer later after reverse engineering.
Video chip makers have also been working with the kernel folks directly contributing.
OK, more of this people, are you listening Lenobo, MSI, HP?
Give us network card and audio drivers please.

hi
Added to this, stop insisting that windows and osx are the only
"popular" platforms as reasons for simply ignoring the increasing linux
popularity. Although, I'll gladly skip the lenovo crapware, although
their computers look nice, the one or two I've seen and felt at best buy.
Thanks

Dell isn't the only PC maker working with Canonical.

The preference for OSx and Windoze is sort of a self-fulfilling prophecy. After the last debacle with the Win10 "critical error" which MS has not adequately addressed even after several months, I am moving *everything* I have to Linux. There are now several distros that are user-friendly, and the ability to escape the walled gardens make the learning curve worthwhile. For those who have not been indoctrinated in Windoze or OSx, the learning curve for Linux is actually easier.

Oh, and pay no attention to the recent news that Microsoft is now promoting Linux. Remember the MS motto: "Embrace. Extend. Extinguish." I think they are going to find that hard to do with Linux (just ask the folks at Sun and Oracle about their experience trying to hijack open-source projects).
