Below is a msg I sent to the Vinux list, but I originially created this app for my custom GUI that I run on ARch-Linux and other distros.
It's good for anyone running gnome3, or unity, as well as WMs like ratpoison or fluxbox.

Subject: VINUX-SUPPORT: Updated fluxable-newmenu app for vinux and other distros
User-Agent: Mutt/1.6.0 (2016-04-01)
I just pushed an update to the vnx branch of my git repo for my sort of replacement for the classic menu indicator.
For the most of you who have not tried this little application it is much less cluttered than the current classic-menu-indicator.
It includes reboot and shutdown entries, monitor toggle and orca prefferences in the main, (root) menu.
To get the latest version make sure you have git installed,
sudo apt-get install git
I really think this should be in all Vinux releases as many people will want to get a package from git, including ppl who know very little about Linux,
repos, etc.
I'll try and make a mini how-to for the wiki soon on basic git use.
After you have git installed run the following commands in a terminal or console.
git clone
http://github.com/burt1iband/fluxable-newmenu
cd in to the fluxable-newmenu dir created by the above command, and run
git checkout vnx
and run the bash installer with
sudo ./install
press tab after you get most of the way through install and press enter.
Now for best use you will want to bind fluxable-newmenu to a keyboard shortcut.
It can be found in your applications menus, or by typing in the dash.
If you want it all the time you can put the .deskitop file in to ~/.config/autostart, but personally I recomment a hotkey.
I've gotten rid of my classic menu indicator, but each to his or her own of course.
A few more goddies are planned for this, and any day now it'll be available as a .deb in a repo.
If you are running a distro like Debian, Arch or Fedora that uses systemd much more than Vinux you can get the version from the master branch, i.e. you
do not need the checkout command, or if you switched to the vnx branch run
git checkout master and install that version.
It will use different filemanagers depending on which desktop you are using. If you do not use mate, I recommend installing pcmanfm as I like hbow it
displayes the aps menus better than I like the way nautilus does it.
You will want to do afolder specific presentationonce the menus have loaded perhaps so it's not so verbose telling you file size which means absolutely
nothuseful with this app. I use list view as there are only about 14 items in the main menu as I recall, submenus' sizes of course vary depending on
what you have installed.
I've used this for well over a year now, and in current for for a few weeks, i.e. I just added monitor toggle item, but if you have any problems, or
think some category should be added, let me know. I don't want the duplication and clutter of the menu indicator, but perhaps something is missing that
people want. I lovd the classic menu indicator in vinux4, but they went over the top after that I think.
When we have a quickstart guide perhaps there should be an entry for it in the main menu, or a docs submenu with a coule or three items in it? What do
people think?
How about a link to the wiki?
The only thing that occurs to me that shoud probably be added is an other submenu for aps that do not show up in any other category, but so far those
are few and far between >I think, can't think of anything I don't see now actually, but there may well be several aps I never use that are not in any
existing category.
Thanks for reading this long message if you made it this far.
Regards,
