I think it is be a great idea to keep a minute on what we discussed in each bi-weekly meeting, so here comes the first one!
Later on we will rotate this work so that everybody will get an opportunity to write a minute! To keep things clear, from now on I will switch to the third-person view.

Today Tung and Li talked about the general plans of the community. Members will be working on about 3 projects at the same time. Below are the possible ideas so far:

1. Combined student media mobile app:
  • Read news from Bucknellian & Campus Vinyl & Her Campus
  • Read music feed from WVBU
  • Cross-platform
2. 3D virtual campus tour:
  • 3D models of buildings come from real pictures
  • Embedded in webpages (we talked about this, right?)
3. Campus map to keep track of people's positions
  • Cross-platform
  • perhaps can be combined with the virtual campus tour
4. Web application for Human vs Zombies tag game

Things that need to be done ASAP:
1. Set up pages and documentations:
  • Build Google Groups and Github page
  • Write a introductory guide line for new members
  • Facebook page, etc
2. Contacting people:
  • Ask for available computers, software & licences for doing 3D modelling
  • Arrange the next meeting which is open for everybody on campus (design posters for the meetings)
  • Talk to people working for Bucknellian and WVBU
If you remember anything we discussed which is not listed above, please write them below, thanks!

Hi I would like to add more specific details about the virtual Bucknell stuff since I just start working on it.

1. The project is mainly based on Unity 3D Engine, which supports various 3d object formats. I think we will probably choose C# as its main developing language.
2. The main idea is to using 3D modeling software such as 3ds max and Blender to render the entire campus.
3. I'm thinking of using first person as it is easy to implement.
4. Based on Unity's engine's flexibility, we can actually export it into various platform, such as Windows and Linux. However, a web player is more convenient if we want to integrate the project into Bucknell's website.

I'm currently working on the camera system, which enables the user move and see around. I thought about using FPS Control available at the Unity store; yet lack of source code and flexibility drives me to write my own library.

I know how to do 3D Modeling, yet I'm not good at it. So I need help from civil engineers or even art students who can do 3D modelling proficiently. You can get 3ds max and maya for free suing your bucknell email. Please ckeck the official page if you're interested in.

Hello! I have also started working on the Virtual Bucknell as well. I grabbed a topographical map of Bucknell and have been making an attempt at the terrain.

I know we have a lot on our plate but two more things that I recommend we do ASAP are setup a site. I have little experience with this so I do not know if I am the person to do this but I think a website that we can all connect to and see progress on projects would be good. Although, my main reason for suggesting we create a site is so that we can use some project management tools. My personal favorite is MantisBT (http://www.mantisbt.org/index.php) but two others that I have used are Redmine (http://www.redmine.org/) and Jira (https://www.atlassian.com/software/jira) Jira we would need to apply for a free license but Jira is world renowned for being one of the best project management tools.

Anyways, I am getting excited for the work to come!

PS. Here is my number in case anyone wants to work together on an aspect of this: 760-331-3410

Are we able to get Professor Zaccone and Professor Meng to say that our setting is a classroom setting? If not, we could instead use the open source license here: https://www.atlassian.com/software/views/open-source-license-request

Unfortunately, we do have to meet the requirements which also includes getting a license approved by the Open Source Initiative.

Just making sure we can proceed without any future (legal?) problems.

Has anyone besides myself used a project management tool?

I definitely think that either Professor Zacoone or Professor Meng would be able to grab an Atlassian License for us as long as we came to them with all the grunt work done. Realistically though, MantisBT is our best bet for getting up and started ASAP. The only perk to using Atlassian software (specifically Jira) is that its widely used and would be a good technical skill to have.

I've down work with TFS (Team Foundation Sever) as it is integrated with Visual Studio Pro. By the way, you can get both of them for free as a student.

Alright I just got off the phone with an old boss and he recommend that I check out Basecamp Classic for our Task Manager. If you don't mind I am going to set it up and invite everyone and if you like what you see that we can use it, if not that no issues since its all free!
