I, Joe Sonne, hereby announce my intention to renew my position as a Director of the Board of Open Source Matters.

I have been on the OSM Board for only a few months and have been active in all OSM meetings and participate in the mailing list discussions between the board members.

Since joining the board I have completed the transition of Capital Committee Chair from the previous board member who held it. I now have the respect and cooperation of the team. I am also currently the OSM liaison for the Marketing Working Group.

My most noticeable personal accomplishment to date has been to bring in a new Platinum ($25,000) sponsor to the project.

I currently meet with the Capital Committee Team on a weekly basis. I have implemented Teamwork Project Management software for the Team to strategize, plan, coordinate and monitor the progress of our goals and objectives.

For the coming year my intent is to:

- Complete the development of a new sponsor website which will have tools and processes in place to help streamline the workflow, as well as response time, for the fulfillment of sponsorship package contracts from initial sponsor contact to approval and payment and implementation of sponsorship packages.
- Set up year round targeted marketing campaign to sell new sponsorship packages and increase the annual amount of sponsorship dollars to the project.
- To set up methods to do ongoing evaluations and analysis of sponsorship program and packages to ensure a win win situation between Joomla and sponsors.
- To replace the current shop.joomla.org 1.5 shop with a new site.
- To create a Joomla merchandise-licensing program that enables the Joomla community to have regional access to quality Joomla merchandise at the best prices possible.
- To create new opportunities for Joomla and its community by developing a program to foster relationships with large companies who are currently not involved with Joomla.
- To implement a paid Joomla web-hosting directory for companies that meet Joomla standards.

Thank you very much for your consideration. It’s a privilege to serve in this capacity.

Joe Sonne

I would like to renew my term for my position as a Director of the Board of Open Source Matters. I also wish to be considered as an Officer.

I have been on the OSM board since October 2012. I've been participated on almost all online meeting as well as participated at all Leadership Summits during my term. With the help of my OSM colleges Ofer Cohen and Leonel Canton I have taken on the challenge to make the Joomla Certification come to life. It has been a really good experience with lots of collaboration and communication with the community. As it is one of our main goals that was voted on by the community, there has been a lot of interaction among the community members on how the work is progressing. So I have been speaking about this at JAB13 and JWC13 as well as at the Joomla Days in Spain & South Africa and will again at the upcoming Joomla Day in Denmark.

In January 2013 I initiated a call for volunteers in the Joomla Magazine which was followed by a Discovery Phase to set the stage for the working teams:
  • Joomla Certification Program Team
  • Joomla Certification Communications & Marketing Team
  • Joomla Certification Training Team
  • Joomla Certification Documentation Team (to be started)
The team leaders are members of the Joomla Certification Steering Committee of which I'm the leader. The teams meet almost every week and the Steering Committee meets every two weeks. Our goal is to launch the first Joomla Certification for Joomla 3.5. More information on the project can be found here https://www.facebook.com/joomlacertificationprogram where we always try to report the progress of every meeting to get feedback.

This is one good example of my leadership skills. I'm a strong believer in the strength of the huge number of community members. I believe that the role of the leadership should be to clearly define the vision of Joomla as a project and as a community. First of all, to identify the areas that are the foundations for running the project and to make sure that they are in a good state and handled to the standard of the project. And most important that the manpower and funding needed is there. And secondly, to identify the new important projects and areas that need the most attention, set the stage for them and then empower working groups to carry them out. The leaders of the working groups would then report to the LT. Currently a lot of work is being done by the LT and not by working groups. In my opinion that is not the most efficient nor fun way to run the project and for our community to grow successfully.

My goals for the next year are therefor as follows:
  • Revisit the vision, strategy and long term goals for Joomla and to strengthen and clarify them.
  • Work to enhance the collaboration and transparency between CLT, PLT and OSM.
  • Infuse the vision in all parts of the Joomla Community and make it actionable.
  • Empower the Joomla Community to work towards our common goals together.
  • Emphasize as much as possible on the international aspect of Joomla in all areas.
  • Through the Joomla Certification Program get a closer partnership with education companies, organizations and schools.
  • Launch the Joomla Certification Program for Joomla 3.5 and setting up the website certification.joomla.org
Thanks for considering my renewal.

Yours,
Sarah Watz
