All, pending someone with the right tech chops and time to do so looking into the former's Tix version dependence, right now I have to wonder why bother?

Correct me if I'm wrong on this, but I'm just unaware of any benefits GMaps has over OSM (in the Tix environment at least).

Anyone?

in my opinion most may use google mapping as it is more widely used and looks appealing to the eye. OpenStreetMap is more flexible when needed for applications when cost is a factor, and developers can customize the map to fit their application with it being open sourced and looks basic. assuming tickets would toss google aside and use OSM making tickets truer opensource program and not using proprietary services especially with google raising pricing and limiting free services, OSM would be the next best option. the current OSM at least for my installation works partially. reverse geocoding needs worked as when clicking on the map to populate an address, it clears put the city and state field on the call entry screen along with the yellow map marker with a blank speech bubble next to it. Eric did say the api has changed and the code is far different than what's included with tickets. with google maps you could click on a house on the map and address with city and state would populate in the appropriate Fields.

I agree with Ronald.  I think GMaps is just what most people are accustomed to seeing.  But OSM works fine - as you can see in my last post.  The downside to Google Maps of course is that if you use it too much, it will cost you.  Nothing is free anymore.   Google has to make their money somewhere I guess.
