Hi all.

I have set up an instance of Tickets for a medical company to use on larger events, and they want live tracking.

In the past I have used Traccar, but only got this working when Tickets was running on the same server as Traccar.

This company needs Tickets to run on their own servers, due to their own security requirements, and for the life of me I cannot get Traccar to run - even using the REST API version of remotes.inc.php

Rather than give myself an injury trying to get Traccar running, even though it is an excellent platform, I am reaching out to see if there are any other free tracking solutions that work with Tickets, either straight out of the box or with minimal tinkering.

Thanks in advance!

Tracar.org offers support for $50 an hour, and will set you up a server in your own cloud infrastructure for $100 bucks. Or you can rent a hosted one from them for $49.95.

I have a Traccar server running via a DigitalOcean droplet, and it is working fine.

However, I cannot get this linked to Tickets, either using the standard connection to the database or via the REST API script written by Roberto Sanglay.

It seems that the people at Traccar change things, probably for improved functionality, but breaks any connection with Tickets, hence why I am asking for any other free options out there.

I’m assuming your preference is to use Traccar as you’re already familiar with it.

I’m not familiar with the details of the communications between Tickets and Traccar. Who connects to who? Is it HTTP or some other protocol? Suspecting firewall issues, but that is just a guess without some details.

I would like to use Traccar, but I have lost far too much sleep and hair to try and get this working, plus I don't have access to the Tickets server to be able to mess about with code or the database. It is a shame that is still isn't easy integrating with Traccar, because it is an incredible platform and is always being improved upon, just that it is always a pain getting it to work...

All, at this point all I can contribute is a bit of background.

Traccar was integrated/internalized within Tickets in its implementation. (Not my preference then, but whoever did that was unable to get the API-connection to work, as I understand it.)

Therefore, I believe that any external Traccar implementation should be irrelevant.

Anyone with information to the contrary please say so here!

Darren, if  as you say, you can't have 'access to the Tickets server to be able to mess about with code or the database', then any other product will be unreachable without a good bit of effort, I expect.  Getting that right has been a major headache for me and Andy in the several that we have implemented.  Sorry!

No worries Arnie - as you may remember I did have this running on a couple of instances in the past, but the server for Tickets has to have a certain level of security due to the company working with the NHS, which is why something with a REST API link would be preferable.

The company Director isn't adverse to making any edits required, but just needs assurance that things will work - I did deploy a test build of Tickets on my shared hosting but cannot get it to pull data over from Traccar; event the traccar.php script written by Roberto doesn't connect, I just get a blank page... I do get output if I use /api/devices and /api/positions from the IP address, but nothing in Tickets at all.

I know a lot of the in-built tracking applications have been depreciated now, so they aren't an option, but was hoping someone may just come on and say "we use XXX and it works fine for us!"

It isn't the end of the world, as Tickets gives the company everything it needs in spades, just would be nice to have live tracking within Tickets.

What do you advise to use for tracking with tickets ?

Darren, your reference to a 'shared hosting' caught my attention.  Its specific characteristics may warrant your attention.

Unfortunately, Arnie, the company can't afford to run their own server with the security requirements needed, so have to rely on shared hosting. Although, the majority of Tickets instances I've run in the past have been on shared hosting without an issue, which is odd.

The test instance I have run has been on my own shared hosting, which I've had running with Traccar in the past, but doesn't work now. I know security requirements change, ect. so understand that what once worked might not now, but that is the postion the company is in...

Darren, it hasn't been the sharing per se that was a problem.  Rather it was stuff like sub-directory name collisions, external connection policy, etc.  Details like that.

Daren,

You really have not said what is not working for you.  Also, can you not emulate the customer's environment with two separate servers in your office, or maybe two Proxmox instances on one server?  That way, you can debug the issue and tell the customer that these are the changes needed ti implement this in the manner you are requesting.

OK.

A lot has happened this morning, and I can say (for now) I have Traccar working within Tickets.

There are extra edits needed to get this working, which I will post up tomorrow, in case anyone else wants to get Traccar working within Tickets.

Thanks!
