to Open Source CAD
Most 3g and 4g hotspots now have GPS and many Fire/EMS/Police vehicles
use wireless internet adapters with GPS integrated into them. All of
these devices can be configured to send their position to a remote
server at certain intervals or upon movement. Why not add a feature
to Tickets to receive these and have the AVL locations sent directly
to tickets instead of having to mess around with 3rd party services.
Another benefit is that if you have a radio system, you can add
tinytrackers to them and connect a TNC to the tickets server to have
AVL even when the internet goes down...

That may be possible under Gtracks...I'm just now starting to look at the requirements for integrating Gtracks into Tickets so I can write the manual section that deals with that.
I'm going to copy this thread to the open-source-cad-dev group so some of the technical aspects can be bounced around in more detail.
