Hi Everybody,

I am happy to announce that OSF (Open Semantic Framework) 1.1 is out.
This is the latest stable version of the stack which includes structWSF
1.1. This new version is compatible with Ubuntu 12.04 LTS Solr 1.4 and
Virtuoso 6.1.4. A few bugs have been fixed in the installer [1]. This
version won't receive any new feature in the future, but only bug fixes.
So expect version 1.1.1, 1.1.2, etc in the future.

This new version 1.1 also announce the creation of OSF 2.0. That new
version of OSF will includes structWSF 2.0 which will have multiple new
features such has:

* A new version of conStruct will be available for Drupal 7 with a
few new modules. The end result will be a better integration of
structWSF web service endpoints into the Drupal 7 ecosystem.
* The Search endpoint now support filtering by datatypes (dates,
numbers, etc).
* All web service endpoints will support multiple languages
* Solr 3.6 will be used
* Virtuoso 6.1.6 will be used
* structWSF will require PHP 5.3 and above
* A new web service interface mechanism will be in place such that a
developer can change the core functionality of a endpoint without
changing the endpoint's API
* Each web service endpoint will have a version number
* All pieces of OSF will now have auto-loading classes based on their
namespaces
* A series of smaller changes and features

All the new features for OSF will be released in the version 2.0. Some
code is already available on the GitHub repositories, but a complete
installation package will be available in the coming months only.

Also note that OSF 1.1 *won't* be upgradable to OSF 2.0 (there won't be
an upgrade script for structWSF 1.1 to 2.0). It will only be possible to
Migrate a OSF 1.1 instance to OSF 2.0. The major reasons for this
decision is that the Solr schema for structWSF did get multiple changes,
and that the conStruct version of OSF 2.0 will be installed on Drupal 7.

You now have access to the OSF 1.1 installer here [1]
And you have also access to a OSF upgrader that will upgrade your
version to 1.1.0 [2]

Hi Fred

Just wanted to say thanks for the new version. The installer worked perfectly (albeit slowly!) on my 32 bit micro instance of Ubuntu 12.04.

Not that I need it, but just to note, I tried on a 64 bit version first but it kept freezing.

I'm still figuring out a lot of how everything fits together and works but I am looking forward to version 2.0!

Thank you for making this available.

Jamie

Good! What was the characeristics of the server you used?

Humm, that is certainly not normal since I did installed that specific
version of the script multiple times on 64 bits systems.

Where did it froze exactly in the installation process?

Good!

Fred

Apologies for the delay in getting back to you. I re-ran the 64bit installation script and it worked with no problems. Not sure what happened the first time around but it worked on the second attempt. I was up against a deadline and didn't have time to troubleshoot it.Since I completed the project I was working on for college I have been pretty tied up with work. If you're interested I've finally got the content of my project report online at www.saears.eu  I haven't had the opportunity to do anything further with this project but I am hoping to pick this up again in the new year and see if I can persuade work that it is worth pursuing.

Thanks and Happy New Year!

Jamie
