I use balabolka v 1.8.0.234

i have gotten open-sapi to work with the sapi5 voices, but am having
no luck with the sapi4 voices. I have installed the speech api files
and the "mary mike and sam" voices from MS. i can switch back and
forth from the sapi4 and sapi5 tabs. the 5 works, but i prefer the
diction of the voices in 4. Does open-sapi support sapi4 voices? Am
i missing some vital bit of configuration? any information will be
appreciated.

As far as I know opensapi only works with sapi5 voices, but I am not directly involved with the project - you should contact thomas lloyd on the opensapi mailing list or through the project site to clarify.

open-sapi does not have anything to do with balabolka. Balabolka
should be able to use whatever you have installed in your wine
installation. btw what version of wine are you using? I couldn't make
balaboka work under wine.

I use balabolka v 1.8.0.234

I installed all the "winetricks" from the downloads page that would
install, and balabolka now works, but only with the sapi5 voices. The
sapi5 voices sound great, but the way it reads sounds much less
natural than sapi4 MS mary.

From memory you need to install the SAPI4 SDK/ redistribution file
from Microsoft.

Find it here:

http://www.webaloud.com/files/Spchapi.exe

You also might need to change the default OS in wine to Windows 2000,
in a terminal type

winecfg &

then look at the bottom of the page and change the Windows box to say
Windows 2k. That should help any problems if you find it does not
work.

This should allow you to use SAPI4 in other applications but not open-
sapi.

Thanks,

Tom

Right because I am nice i will modify winetricks to install sapi4 for
you. I will look at this tonight.

I will e-mail when it is done with how you should update and run
winetricks to install it.

Tom

Slowly but surely there is now a guide on the wiki for SAPI4 Installs.
Good luck with it I have tested it about 50%. Let me know how you get
on:
