2. Java language basics :- Exception Handling 
3. Java concurrency framework: Threads, Locks, 
4. I/O: File Handling, Socket Programming 
5. Java Collection Framework 
6. JVM basics : - Garbage collection, Java ergonomics (memory). - Java performance tuning 
7. Java Generics framework. 
8. Logging framworks (Any one of log4j, java logging) 
9. Build tools (Any one of ant, maven)
10. Version control (Any one of SVN, CVS) 
11. Appservers (Any one of Tomcat, JBoss) 
12. Frameworks (Any one of Spring, Struts) 
13. Unix shell scripting

Good to have :
1. DB interaction: JDBC, Hibernate, Connection pooling
2. Core Java:
                   - annotations
                   - java NIO
