Hello, I am troubleshooting a mount and would like to use my main camera ZWO 2600 MC Pro to guide with PHD2, to eliminate any flexure consideration (I dont think there are any, but this will prove it).

Will bin 2 be enough and can that work in average seeing?  Question about both the efficacy and ability to handle the data.  Pixel size is 3.76 and camera output at bin 1 is about 50 Mb of data per sub.  Reason I am asking is that some programs cannot handle this level of data per sub, especially if the interval is a second for example.

My other alternative could be to use a ZWO 183 MC Pro (pixel size 2.4) and a smaller sensor, so even at bin 1, the data output is about 15 Mb per sub.

TYIA!

Sounds like you have the right idea re: how to diagnose flexure. For purposes of your test and your available cameras, i would try to bin it as much as possible - bin 3 or 4 - particularly at 1 second subs and if you are using he large (for guiding) aps-c sized sensor (same for the 183, although it is less of an issue). That should still be plenty of resolution to evaluate DF.

Alternatively, you can bin lower and use subframes, but at the expense of disabling multi-star guiding

To provide a quick update, this testing was on an iOptron CEM 70 AW.   In an otherwise excellent mount performance, random spikes I saw were due to cable snag in the thru-mount RA to Dec wiring.   It’s a cause that’s not obvious or first thought, so I wanted to share for awareness.  Mount is excellent and well behaved once this is addressed.

Thanks for posting this, Sanjeev.  Many people make the mistake of thinking that through-the-mount cabling automatically eliminates cable routing problems.  Unfortunately, it doesn't.
