Hi Lee. Can you provide more supporting information – is there a PHD2 debug log file generated? What release of PHD2 were you running before the upgrade? I suspect that your battle with MacOS security – whatever that was – wasn’t successful after all. At least on Windows, security software can render an app unusable because it removes or quarantines underlying components that are required to run. Once that happens, the whole download process has to be repeated. Can you temporarily disable the anti-malware feature and retry the installation?
Regards,
Bruce

How big is the file? If it’s not huge, you can attach it to the forum message, otherwise you’ll have to push it to a cloud service and post a publicly available link.
Have you tried re-installing the 2.6.11 base release or 2.6.11dev1? We need to know whether the problem is because of a change in your environment or something specific to PHD2. Have you tried temporarily disabling the security app and doing the install with it turned off?

Sorry to hear you’re still having trouble. We’ve been able to try this on 3 different Mac systems and it installs and runs fine. So I don’t think we’re going to make any progress on it until we can get a failing case in our hands or someone with more Mac development experience gets involved. That doesn’t help you much but I fear it’s the reality of the situation.

I just today tried to use PhD 2.6.11dev2 on a brand new Mac using MacOS 12.6. It still crashes immediately. Also, 2.6.11 dev 1 works just fine, just as it did on another machine running MacOS 12.5..

Dev2 is the last build and there’s no reason to think a subsequent build will fix the problem until we understand what’s wrong. I don’t know anything about XCode so I don’t know if that’s a possible source. The only thing I wonder about is the “newness” of these Mac systems you’re using. Perhaps it’s possible that there’s a missing system library that hasn’t been installed but is present on older systems because of other apps that were installed. That can happen on Windows, and in those cases it’s often one of the vendor-built camera drivers that is triggering the problem. But really, I’m just guessing.

Thanks, Archer, this is very helpful – it makes it pretty clear it’s something we’ve done and not a random problem on a particular PC. Andy is the build guy and I’ve asked him to take a look at this. We don’t have access to any non-Intel Mac systems so we might need some testing help.

Is your Mac also one of the non-Intel versions?

I’m sorry David, there doesn’t seem to be any practical way for the main developers to investigate this because we don’t have access to a non-Intel Mac. There has apparently been a change in the lower layers of the Mac system that is causing the WxWidgets code to fail. The only option would seem to be blindly reverting changes in dev2 to see if the problem is avoided, a pretty unappealing approach.

I’d be surprised if this had anything to do with the mount driver. What little we know suggests it’s probably a problem with the basic image/window display functions.

Hello Team,
Just got SVBony 305 camera for my MacBook M2 .... and yes the latest dev still crashes .... but if I load dev1 then PHD2 gets by Rosetta and begins to function ... (but of course does not have SVbony drivers).
This thread seems to have stopped in Feb ... just wondering if the problem was solved or if there was another workaround ...
David. (May 2023)

I don’t know what you mean by “v1” – are you talking about PHD1!?! If so, that would be impossible, we don’t deal with that.

Hi David. We’re going to make a series of test builds that we hope can narrow down which of the dev2 changes triggered this problem. If you’re willing to test those for us, maybe we can make some progress.

Stay tuned, Andy is working on a different approach that may tell us a lot more. If it comes to testing, the initial go/no-go test will be immediate – PHD2 will either initialize or it won’t.

Looks like some dependencies on SVBony / Touptek SDKs.
Do you think you could work out a similar fix as what you did for 2.6.11? That would be amazing.
Andy just made a change based on your diagnostic info and he has updated the Mac version of the 2.6.12 release on our web site. So please try downloading and installing it again.
