Hello to all.
My equipment consists of Tak EM-400 Temma2 mount, a Starlight Express Lodestar X2 guide camera. I use the SkyX Pro to control scope. I use a Windows 7 laptop. I use Maxim DL Version 6.13 for image acquisition and guiding. I have read good things about PHD2 and would like to give it a try for my guiding needs  I have PHD2 2.6.2 and ASCOM 6.2 Platform.

I am able to connect to the Lodestar X2 camera. However, when I try to attach to the Tak EM-400 Temma2 mount, I get this error window: "ASCOM driver problem during connection: (ASCOM.Utilities) The PortName cannot be empty. Parameter name: PortName"

In PHD2 under "Connect Equipment", For the camera, I have Starlight Express SXV selected. For the mount, I have "Temma by Takahashi (ASCOM)" selected. I have tried other drivers for the mount which include: "ASCOM telescope driver for TheSky" and "TheSky-controlled telescope (ASCOM)" but cannot connect to the mount.

Another question, what is Pulse Guide? Will it work on my Tak mount?

Any assistance in regards to this issue is very much appreciated !!!

Thanks to all very much !

Regards,

Lanny Harwell

Larry:

I believe you want to use the last one you mention, "TheSky-controlled telescope (ASCOM)", which should allow SkyX to share the telescope with PHD2 -- see the figure in the bottom diagram on this page - http://www.bisque.com/sc/pages/SBandASCOM.aspx. The SkyX will still control the telescope, but it will provide an ASCOM view it that PHD2 can use.

You should try it again, and if it doesn't work you'll have to figure it out. You will probably have better luck getting help with that component in a Bisque forum than here, since they are the authors of that piece of software.

Pulse guiding is one way to control mount guiding. If it is necessary to guide for 500ms, one way is for software to say "start guiding", wait 500ms, then say "stop guiding". Pulse guiding lets it just say "guide for 500ms". Pulse guiding is the second of these two.

Good luck,

Bret
