Hi Roland. I don’t know why your subject line talks about a backlash problem. Your biggest problem is the native tracking of the RA axis on the mount which is terrible. Here’s a view:

For guiding, backlash is irrelevant on the RA axis, this looks like a substantial problem in the RA drive system that will require a mechanical repair. So you probably need to get support from the mount provider. These tracking errors are too large and too frequent to be handled by guiding.

I don’t know where the problem lies. Typically, these sorts of problems come from mechanical issues somewhere in the RA drive system. For these high-frequency, “rough” tracking problems, it’s often somewhere in the series of gears between the RA motor and the worm gear. But really, it can come from anything in the RA drive system including vibration. A less likely source is the firmware in the mount that’s used to control the drive motors. Having the problem originate in the motherboard strikes me as unlikely. But really, you’re asking in the wrong place – you need to communicate with the provider of your mount or, at the very least, a forum that has experts in your model of mount.
