Hi,

I did a search for this topic , with many variations of words, but came up empty, so I apologize if this has been covered!

I have two (actually 4) ZWO cameras. 3 are USB 3.0 and one is USB 2.0

If I don't connect them in just the right sequence, PHD2 almost always grabs the "wrong" camera, and I can't find a way to tell it to go to the "correct" one.

So I am often (always), physically unplugging the imaging camera (which has already started cooling, so I get warnings about "shocking" the camera), so PHD2 will grab the guide camera.

Any help is appreciated!

Steve

Hi Steve.  Not sure I completely understanding your question.  Are you using this button to choose the camera you want:

Is the problem that the cameras aren’t uniquely identified or PHD2 doesn’t use the one you select?

Bruce

Okay, that'e embarrassing (though I am getting used to that).  I was not aware of "the branch" feature. I should have done more reading (though I did search the internet and the group for this).

Works great now.

Thanks Bruce!

Steve,

Here's another  post that might be helpful regarding how the ZWO cameras are numbered: https://groups.google.com/d/msg/open-phd-guiding/fhF0y9bKZy8/lTxdj9WhAAAJ

I don't even need the numbering - PHD2 shows the actual model numbers with that branch button!

I am an idiot.  :/

Your point is still valid.  I know about the button.  It just doesn't always work.  I spent 30 minutes the other night, desperately trying to switch cameras with no luck.  I could switch between them in Nebulosity, but not in PHD2.  Tried rebooting, different usb ports, talking sexy to it... anything I could think of!

After restarting the program several times, it just magically started working again.

How about uploading your PHD2 Debug Log from the session where you had trouble so we can look into it.

I don’t know if this point was covered, but I have 2 zwo cameras and here’s how I avoid that

I set up PHD and SGP properly once, and make sure the correct cameras are attached to each program

I always connect SGP to my main imaging camera first.

Then I connect PHD (or have SGP connect) that way there is always only one camera available

Thanks

Brian

I have the same issue with my SBIG STF-8300 and STi guide camera.  The "select camera" dialog in PHD2 only let's me select which interface to choose (e.g. USB), but both of my SBIG cameras are on USB so this doesn't help.

The only way I can get it to work is to connect to the STF-8300 first (either in CCDOps or SGP) and then have PHD2 connect (and it automatically chooses the STi guide camera).

Interestingly, when asked to connect to a camera, both CCDOps and SGP  pop up a dialog listing the STF and the STi to chose from, so it is possibly for the app to list available specific cameras (rather than just choosing "USB"), but PHD2 doesn't appear to support this option.  Would be great if it could.

Hi Steve,
Would you mind re-posting your message in a new thread. I'd like to understand your SBIG issue, but I think it will get confusing in this thread where everything thus far has been discussing ZWO cameras.
Thanks,
Andy
