Hi Claus. We recommend that you set up separate profiles for both binned and un-binned operation. While you can switch back and forth by using the binning setting in the brain, that’s not the best approach unless you’re just doing a quick experiment. The dark frames and bad pixel maps can’t be shared between the two, so you’ll be better off having separate profiles, each with their own dark frames or bad-pix maps and each with their own settings for binning and things like min-motion values. In the camera tab, the pixel size always refers to the un-binned pixel size, and if you hover over the field with the mouse cursor, the tooltip should say that. So if you use the PHD2 binning control in that dialog, that’s all you would change (the camera has to be connected for this control to be shown). The min-motion setting is, again, best handled by using separate profiles. When you use the wizard to build the new profile for binned operation, it will choose good default values for guiding, including min-motion. The relationship is not strictly linear at the low end, there’s a floor. Once you’ve built the new profile, including a dark library, you can then run the Guiding Assistant for a few minutes to get a recommendation for min-moves. Then you’re all set – when you want to switch between binned and un-binned operations, just switch profiles.
Good luck,
Bruce
