Hi Folks
When I open PHD2 in NINA, all is fine but when I go to close PHD2 in NINA, it fails to actually close the application. I find this when I check the computer after a night of imaging and I just reproduced it directly.  Must be a setting somewhere I don't know about.
Any ideas?
Thank you !
Gary

That, I believe is quite normal. NINA will open PHD2 and connect but when it disconnects from PHD2 it does not close the application.

This is probably something you need to check on the NINA side of things.  There is an interface in PHD2 to shut down the app but that isn't the same as doing a 'disconnect'.  I don't know whether NINA exposes the 'shutdown' PHD2 command to end-users.

Ok Paul, thanks for letting me know. It seemed odd that all the other connections/application close upon disconnection.

This is normal NINA process afaik.

You may want to ask at the NINA discord if you want to dig deeper, but as Paul said, this is how it works today

Out of curiosity, I will ask about this in NINA Discord. It’s odd that they have an instruction to ‘stop guiding’ and then another instruction to ‘disconnect all devices’ which does nothing more to disconnect phd2.
Thanks for your response….. and really respect all that have made phd2

I decided to try asking the AI engine in Google about this question of how to fully disconnect PHD2 from within an Advanced Sequence in NINA. I was impressed by the response it returned about 2 seconds and thought some of you might be interested so here’s the AI :

It appears there might be some confusion about the "Stop Guiding" and "Disconnect PHD2" instructions within N.I.N.A.'s Advanced Sequencer
.
  • "Stop Guiding" within the sequencer essentially pauses the active guiding process in PHD2. It doesn't fully disconnect N.I.N.A. from PHD2, but it stops the guiding corrections, which is useful during maneuvers like meridian flips or for planned pauses within your sequence.
  • "Disconnect PHD2" is designed to completely sever the connection between N.I.N.A. and PHD2. If this instruction isn't working as expected, it could indicate an issue with your setup or N.I.N.A.'s ability to send the disconnect command to PHD2.
Troubleshooting if Disconnect PHD2 isn't working:
  • Check the PHD2 Server: Ensure the PHD2 server is running and accessible to N.I.N.A.
  • Driver Issues: Ensure your guider camera and mount drivers are up-to-date. Outdated drivers can cause communication problems.
  • USB Connections: Poor USB connections or configurations can lead to intermittent disconnections.
  • N.I.N.A. Version: Confirm you are using a recent version of N.I.N.A., as older versions might have limitations or bugs.
  • PHD2 Settings: Review your PHD2 settings to ensure there are no configuration issues that might be preventing disconnection.
  • Test Standalone: Try running PHD2 independently of N.I.N.A. to see if it disconnects normally, according to a Reddit user.
  • Manual Disconnection: If the sequencer instruction fails, you might need to manually disconnect PHD2 within the N.I.N.A. interface or even close PHD2 separately.
If you continue to experience issues, posting in dedicated forums like Cloudy Nights or the N.I.N.A. Discord server with details of your setup, N.I.N.A. and PHD2 versions, and any error messages you receive can help in diagnosing the problem.
