I discovered that PHD2 can connect to a rotator which will cause PHD2 to automatically adjust its calibration by reading rotator movement.  However, I am having a problem connecting a WR35 Nitecrawler to both PHD2 and NINA at the same time.  When the rotator is connected to NINA and I try to connect it to PHD2 too, I get error messages.  Does anyone know if there a way to connect both?

Hi Mark.  You haven't said what the error messages are.  If the messages say that the COM port isn't available, there are a couple of possible causes:
1.  The MoonLite ASCOM driver wasn't written as a "server", meaning that it can't handle more than one client app at a time.  You would have to ask them about that.
2.   You are running PHD2 and Nina with different user accounts or different privileges.  A common mistake is to run one of the apps "as Admin" but not the other.  None of the astro apps you're talking about, including PHD2, require Admin privileges and it is generally a poor practice to run these apps "as Admin".

Good luck,
Bruce

Bruce you are correct with #1.  Ron confirmed that the Nitecrawler driver is only capable of one connection at a time.
Given that fact, is there any way to get around it with something else acting as a server?  I would REALLY like to use the rotator capability in PHD2 but I don't see how anyone can since the rotator has to be connected to the imaging app in order to rotate the camera.  I want to be able to rotate in the middle of the night for a 2nd target and not worry about having to do a PHD calibration.  I might just have to get comfortable with that.

Mark - i'm sure there are a number of ways to go about setting up an ascom hub

Optec offers a software ASCOM server (hub) you can use to manage multiple connections with almost any type of ascom device

it's free now (used to be $$)

Hi Mark.  I can’t think of a way around it.  The ASCOM platform has a new device hub that can provide server interfaces to the other device types but it inexplicably doesn’t support a rotator.  Someone needs to do a modest amount of programming to provide this capability.
