I've used PHD2 successfully for a couple years now, but I have recently installed a new guide cam (Toupcam). I am using latest PHD2, ASCOM 6.3 and correct driver for cam. However, when I try to set up guiding I keep getting an error: "Object reference not set to an instance of an object". What does this mean? How can I fix it? Help!

Jim,

Let's start by taking a look at your PHD2 Debug Log (Getting Help).

Thanks, Jim.   Is this the first time you have tried using that camera ASCOM driver?  Did it work before you upgraded the ASCOM platform?

Andy,
The same problem with ASCOM 6.2 or 6.3. BUT...after several hours reloading all the drivers and ASCOM suites, I finally figured out what was broke! When I upgraded to ASCOM 6.3, I also upgraded everything else including the Toupcam camera driver. It turns out that the camera, though Toupcam ID, requires a Mallincam driver to make it work, and I had inadvertantly "upgraded"  over the original install. The whole issue of re-branding for OEM cameras, that then also require slightly different drivers, stumped me. Thank you again for trying to help this poor old astro soul (lol).
