Hello All,

Just asking for clarification / explanation. I wanted to play with DEC backlash compensation and set the 'Amount' parameter to a number I liked. (Actually about 50% of what the 'Assistant' had proposed. A little later I checked and the amount had been changed. I am not understanding what is happening there. Shouldn't a value that I enter be kept?

FYI here is the log:

Thanks,
Gert

Hi gert
That's not  bug - it's a feature :)
PHD2 automatically adjusts the amount of compensation based on how well the mount has responded before. So lets say it overshot last time, next time it will use less compensation. If it undershoots it uses more. I haven't looked at the algorithm in depth but I think it uses a bit more intelligence than my example.

The place to start for any sort of “clarification/explanation” is always the manual:

https://openphdguiding.org/manual/?section=Advanced_settings.htm#Algorithms_Tab

Scroll down and find the section labeled ‘Declination Backlash Compensation’.
