Please excuse my ignorance on this question. I recently used PECTool to record the PEC of my cgx-l mount. Should I set the mount to play back the PEC curve during guiding? I have seen references about not using the mount PEC data but I also seen that PEC corrections can help with guiding RMS. A bit confused on this.

Hi noname

I am not sure i fully understand your question, but let me take a stab:

If your mount supports Periodic error correction (PEC) where you record the periodic error, and then play it back for storage in the mount, that is a separate process from guiding and should be done prior to any guiding.

Usually the steps for PEC are you record your periodic error using whatever tool is needed, you send that data to your mount ("play back" or upload, depending on what your mount supports), and then you are done

Separately you then use your mount to guide/image.

I hope this helps

Brian

Hi Brian,

I did not know I had to put my name at the end of my post. Anyway, thanks for the explanation. After fooling around with the mount PEC options I understand what you are saying. Once the curve is there that is it. Now I can move on in Phd2 and refine my guide numbers.
