If you are looking for a quick and easy way to view your PHD2 guide log, here is a tool I put together:

  PHD2 Log Viewer

Some screen-shots below.  There's a Windows binary available; it's a wxWidgets app so it should compile on OSX and Linux too. I plan on putting the source code on github when I get a chance.

Settling frames after dither are automatically excluded from statistics calculation

You can also manually select ranges of frames with the mouse to exclude from the statistics

This is a GREAT App, and a Perfect Companion to PHD2.

Any reason why it isn't packaged as part of the PHD2 "Suite" in the PHD2 Installer ??

Is there a Setting or Trick, in either PHD2 or PHD2LogViewer, in order to account for / exclude the Dither Settle Periods from the Stats calculations ??
I see Grey highlights / exclusions for these periods in your Example, but not the same in examination of my own PHD2 v2.4.0 Logs...

Is there any PHD2LogViewer element which utilizes the Debug Logs??
If not, might I suggest that PHD2LogViewer exclude them from the Open File dialog (or use a Filename Mask of "PHD2_Guidelog_*.txt" for that Dialog).
It would seem an easy way to not incentivise folks to Disable Debug Logs...

Thanks. I suppose it could be included at some point. Right now it probably is better separate so it can evolve independently at it own rate for a while.

The automatic exclusion is based on seeing the server commands "settle begin" and "settle end" that indicate when settling is done, so it only works automatically if your imaging app is sending those commands. For example SGP 2.4 uses those commands.  I could imagine adding an option to automatically exclude sections after a dither based on Nebulosity-like "settle at < x pixels for y seconds".

Good point. I will add that to the next rev.

Thanks for the feedback.

Well, with the functionality provided, you could at least look to see PHD2LogViewer mentioned on the OpenPHD2Guiding Page.

(It doesn't yet even come up under a Google Search for "PHD2LogViewer" - I had to remember this Discussion Thread...)

I can't get the "show corrections" checkbox (checked by default) to do anything?

Try zooming in on the X-axis using the “+” button below the graph.  The correction lines are thin and somewhat difficult to see when you’re looking at a long time range.

Also, you can use the mouse wheel to zoom, much easier then clicking the buttons I think. But the buttons are there in case your mouse does not have a wheel.

This is Getting Better all the Time!!

Any chance that you could put Tick-marks for the Clock Time ??
If one wishes to see some specific "Event" for which they know at least roughly the Time, then they can Scroll to the appropriate portion of a Log Trace.
(Especially useful when a Continuous Guiding Session is over 4hrs in length...)

Also:
Per the Quick Help:
"To include a range of points from the statistics, hold down Shift and drag the mouse"
This does act to Highlight a Range in Yellow, but that seems to have No Effect on the Stats Display.
Also, such a Selection doesn't remain Selected.  As soon as the Left-Mouse Button is Released, the Selection Disappears.

sure, that is do-able, I'll add it to my list of things to do.  In the meantime you have to look at the time displayed in the area displayed above the graph as you move the mouse over the graph.

Points excluded from the stats display are greyed-out. To get stats for a specific range: first exclude everything (right-click, Exclude all frames), then shift-drag over the range (or ranges) you want to include.

Hi Andy,

unfortunately i am not able to get the tool working under XP SP2.
I have the latest Beta of PHD2, which is running stable under XP.
Any issues with XP?

Thanks

Robert,

I will publish a new version soon that will run on XP.   The MS compiler I am using by default produces executables that do not run on XP, but I have a workaround so the next build should work on XP. I do not have an XP machine to test on so I may contact you off-list to help confirm.

How do I manually select a portion of the graph?

Thanks

You can either

1.  Select a portion of the data and see what the Statistics display are for that portion.  Use the Shift key and mouse drag.  This does NOT change the view.  Use the CTRL key and mouse drag to EXCLUDE data from the Statistics.

OR

2.  Zoom a portion using the +/- keys below the graph.  Slide left or right with the scroll bar below the graph.  This does NOT change the Statistics.  CLick R to return to full view.

See Help-> Quick Help for more.
