Hi.

I've seen oblique references to this in other threads, but is there a general rule of thumb for when image scale is too small for PHD2 (either absolute or relative to imaging camera).

For example, I have OAG with scale .63 and imaging camera scale of .81.  What are the pros and cons of binning my OAG camera 2x2?

Thanks!

Marc

We recommend keeping the guider image scale above 0.5 arc-sec/px in order to help the star-finding process.  In your case, I would bin the guide camera because you will probably benefit from higher SNR guide stars and you will pay no price in terms of guiding accuracy.  I have a similar situation with my gear and I bin the guide camera to achieve a 1.2 arc-sec/px scale while imaging at 0.6 arc-sec/px.

Regards,

Bruce
