Trying to get PHD2 running in Ubuntu.  Can't get camera to connect and if I bring up the INDI control panel, PHD2 crashes in under a second.

Any ideas?  Any logs I can find and post?

Thanks in advance,

Dana

Anything in the log that indicates what's going on?

Thanks,

Dana

The debug log do not show why the camera do not connect.

Can you try to make a profile for the INDI simulator to help to find if the problem is specific to the camera or to other environment in your computer.

Start the INDI simulator from the console:
indiserver indi_simulator_ccd indi_simulator_telescope

From PHD2 new profile set INDI Camera with device CCD Simulator, and INDI Mount with device Telescope Simulator.
Try to connect both.

Well that was fascinating.

I can create the following profiles:
camera = simulator and telescope = simulator
camera = simulator and telescope = eqmod_telescope
camera = qhy_ccd and telescope = simulator - this one even takes pictures (defocused pictures of the inside of my garage, but they get dark when the guide scope is covered and get light when it is not...)

But I can't create a profile with:
camera = qhy_ccd and telescope = eqmod_telescope - this one the camera can't connect but the telescope can.

And every time I bring up the INDI control panel it stays forever, the red 'X' in the corner doesn't make it go away, and there isn't a close button either.

So it CAN work - I've seen it.

With your profile for camera = qhy_ccd and telescope = eqmod_telescope can you try to connect each device separately using the Connect button on the right, but not the "Connect All" button.

I suspect a timeout value that can be a bit short when you connect the equipment. It can be insufficient because eqmod return a lot of properties, not letting time for the qhy to send it's properties.

Is your INDI server local or remote on another computer?

What is your system architecture, x86_64, i386 or arm ? so I can make a test version with increased timeout for you.

Do not open the INDI control panel from the "Connect equipment" dialog "camera setup" button, this make it freeze until you close the "Connect equipment" dialog because it is modal but not the INDI control panel.
Use the "Camera setting" button from the main toolbar instead.

Connecting individually did not help.  One other thing I've noticed, in the INDI camera selection screen there is a drop down for Main vs. Guide camera.  If I select Main camera (supposed to be a gphoto DSLR) it says it connects, but doesn't return any pictures, just times out.  If I select Guide camera, (what it's supposed to be) it says it cannot connect.

Everything is running on a laptop locally, Ubuntu 16.10 64 bit.

Another question, there is a second port field near the bottom of the INDI configuration screen, it is blank.  Am I supposed to enter anything there?

Another interesting observation. If I have the INDI control panel open from EKOS, but the QHY is disconnected.  Attempting to connect from PHD2 connects it in the INDI control panel, but PHD2 still indicates it's not connected.

Any hope?  Anyone out there successfully use a QHY 5L II M with INDI?
