Hi,
I need to connect two of my cameras from Moravian Instruments:
a) G1-300  a small guiding camera
b) C3-26000 Pro a miidle size CMOS camera

I use PHD2 version 2.6.13; it is a new installation on a new setup

Report:
G1-0301 guiding  CCD
  • Guide - Connect Equipment - Camera: In the drop down menue I select moravian insturments
  • I click on the double arrow button and select G1-301 (G1SX0301-003242)
  • I clik on the tool button and select "fast reed"
  • when I then click on connect button the PHD2 window collapses and the program crashes.
C3-26000 Pro CMOS imager
  • This camera is not available to be Selecta
It is strange for me, because in one of my observatories I am using another G1-031 successful for guiding since sererval years.
In another observatories I am using PHD2 for precise polar aligment with a C2-1600 CCD camera also from Morvaian instruments.

Sorry you're having trouble although there's probably NO NEED TO SHOUT.  Can you please follow the 'getting help' instructions and upload your guide and debug log files:
If you happen to be running on Windows, the quickest resolution will probably come from installing and using the Moravian ASCOM drivers.

Dear Bruce,
I have installed additionally the Ascom drivers from Moravian Instruments for GxCx cameras.
Connecting 'equipment' now there are three(!) cameras available
  a)    Moravian Instruments (G10301) like descripted before (I guess it is the native driver)
          PHD crashes
  b)    Moravian Instruments Camera 64-bit  (I guess the Ascom driver)
          PHD2 anounces 'no camera found'
  c)    Moravian Instruments Camera2 64-bit
          dto

this is the logfile
https://openphdguiding.org/logs/dl/PHD2_logs_gDF9.zip

I think in on of my other observatories I am using the native driver.

The latest release of PHD2 - the one you're running - includes the latest software library from Moravian.  That means all the Moravian drivers must also be the latest releases.  If you are running older versions of the native drivers, that may be the major problem.  The reason you can't get the ASCOM camera driver to work is that it evidently wasn't registered successfully by the Moravian installer.  The error PHD2 sees is this one:

09:23:47.857 00.019 1596 Create ASCOM Camera: choice 'Moravian USB Camera 1 (64 bit) (ASCOM)' progid ASCOM.MoravinstCCD.GXCamera64
09:23:47.858 00.001 1596 CoCreateInstance: [80040154] Class not registered

I suggest that you first update your camera drivers to the latest releases and re-install the ASCOM camera driver.  Make sure you don't have anti-virus software that is interfering with those install operations.  Then try connecting with the ASCOM driver - you will know which that is because it will have 'ASCOM' as part of the name in the drop-down list.  If that doesn't work, ask for help from Moravian.  When the ASCOM driver is being used, all of the camera-related software comes from Moravian, not PHD2.  Assuming you get the camera connected reliably, you must create a new configuration profile in PHD2 using the new-profile-wizard.  If you are just banging away making different choices of devices in the PHD2 'Connect Equipment' dialog, you will just create a mess and will get poor results.

Good luck,
Bruce

Hi Bruce,
thank you for your prompt reply.
This is a new installation for a remote observatory in South Africa.
All Moravian Software, SIPS4 64-bit, native 64-bit and the Ascom 64-bit drivers are the newest one from the Moravian homepage. In one of my remote observatories here in CZ, I use the same camera G1-0301 with native driver also 64-bit.

Nevertheless, I will reinstall the Ascom drivers and keep you updated.

Thanks and best regards, rfa

You can use the ASCOM diagnostics tool to see if your camera driver is known and correctly registered:

"C:\Program Files (x86)\ASCOM\Platform 6\Tools\ASCOM Diagnostics.exe"

Hi Bruce,
the following actions I have done during the weekend:

TEST-1  connecting with native driver
1.JPG
2.JPG
Conclusion:
  • The G1 is available and I can open the property window - hint the driver is present!
  • The C3 is not available, although the installed driver is valid also for CMOS cameras
  • The driver is the actual version, downloaded from MI home page
TEST-2: Installed newest Ascom driver for third party vers. 5.18
3.JPG
There are two  Moravian USB cameras available Camera1 and Camera2
the selection and ppropery buttons are not active
after pressing Connect, this message is shown
4.JPG
Remarks:
In Italy I am running a G2-1600 from MI with Ascom with my PHD2 there under a native driver. Here in my garden observatory a G1-0300 under native driver.
Thi PHD2 software used is the actual one.

The logfiles are enclosed

Thanks for helping, rfa

Did you try using the ASCOM diagnostics tool I recommended?  I think one possibility is that anti-malware software may be interfering with the installation of the camera software - both the native driver and the ASCOM driver.  If you trouble-shoot this with just the ASCOM software, you can work directly with Moravian to get help.  PHD2 treats all ASCOM cameras in the same way so in the ASCOM-only configuration, you have eliminated PHD2 as a source of the problem.  The ASCOM diagnostics output should give you or Moravian more information about what's going wrong.  When you do the installations, don't run "As Admin" and try temporarily disabling any A-V settings that will block "suspicious" or "unknown" software.  You will probably need to un-install all the camera-related software(but not PHD2) before doing this.

Reinhold,

In your screenshot the Moravian Ascom driver indicate (64bit), but PHD2 is a 32bit application and cannot load a 64bit dll.
Can you try to install the 32bit Moravian Ascom driver, even if Windows is 64bit.
Some Ascom driver are independent of bitness but not all.

Andy just ran some tests using the native Moravian driver with 2.6.13 PHD2 on Windows 10 and it all worked fine - including access to the properties dialog.  Patrick's response is definitely important and explains the ASCOM problem but I still suspect that something further is wrong with your PC environment.

for my understanding the Ascom drivers are correctly installed and both cameras are available.

Native drivers from Moravian Instruments for both cameras:
sorry, but the fault cannot be at MI, because  their drivers are working with their program SIPS without any problem.

Therefore, I think the fault must be on PHD2 side.

Hi Reinhold,

You tested the 64bit Ascom driver with 64bit Diagostics so sure it work.

Please repeat this test but in the Ascom Diagnostics menu select "Choose and Connect to Device (32bit application)"
