Hello, According to ioptrons manual it says to set the guiding rate according to the program you are using to guide which would be phd2.
But i can not find anything solid on what phd2 wants the guiding rate to be.  Setting is from 0.01 to 0.90 for ra and dec and can be set independently.
Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks,

Anthony

Hi Anthony.  Since you’re just getting started, you might want to consult this document, which will also answer your specific question:

https://openphdguiding.org/phd2-best-practices/

To skip to the answer, it’s generally better to use the higher range of available guide speeds unless there is specific evidence against it.  Why don’t you try using 0.75x or thereabouts and see how it goes.  The faster guide speed makes the mount more responsive, especially in Dec where backlash is a common problem.

Good luck,

Bruce

No problem, let us know if you have other questions or run into trouble.  The PHD2 help files also have a bunch of info including trouble-shooting tips.  That’s available in the app itself or online here:

Have fun,
