"After 17.0 sec the camera has not completed a 2.0 sec exposure"

I’m having trouble because the error shown above occurs frequently.
I’ve tried various troubleshooting steps, but the issue still hasn’t been resolved.

After the error occurs, the system automatically reconnects and resumes guiding, but it remains unstable. What could be causing this error, and how should I address it?

Steps I’ve taken so far:

  • Since the SV905C camera is USB 2.0, I changed the PC port from USB 3.0 to USB 2.0
  • Replaced the cable (high‑quality 2.0 m)
  • Tested the camera on its own
  • The issue occurs even when only the SV905C is connected, without the main camera
  • Disabled all USB power‑saving options on the PC
  • Connected the SV905C to SharpCap and used live view — no errors occur
  • Performed polar alignment in SharpCap using the SV905C — no errors occur
  • Launched PHD2 with only the SV905C connected and no mount — the same issue still occurs
  • PC specifications:
AMD Ryzen 5 7430U with Radeon Graphics 2.30 GHz, RAM 16 GB, SSD 512 GB
I also tried using a different PC, but the behavior did not change.

I searched through the topics in the forum, but I wasn’t able to find any information that could help resolve the issue.                                                                                                      The log link below is from an actual imaging session. If you need any additional information, I’ll be happy to provide it. Thank you in advance for your help.

I realize this is irritating but it doesn't seem critical - you had a total of 3 camera recoveries for the whole night.  There is a long discussion in the Trouble Shooting section of the User Guide (always the first place to look) that presents what we know about how to identify the underlying problem.  Obviously, it's a hardware problem of some kind.  The fact that other apps like SharpCap work fine means nothing - those apps use the camera in video mode while PHD2 operates the camera in single-exposure mode.  That involves more back-and-forth data traffic and more sensitivity to timing problems.  One thing I don't see in the steps you've taken is any consideration of power delivery to the camera.  This is a critical part of the setup and can be affected by the host PC, the cable length, and ambient temperatures.  You might want to think about trying a powered hub if the camera is currently getting its power only from the USB connection.

Good luck,
Bruce
