As far as I can tell, this only happened once on the night of 5/09.  Settling failures can happen from time to time, they aren't usually a big deal.  To figure out what happened in any particular case, you need to closely examine the guide log for the time interval of interest using the PHDLogViewer tool:

You can get help interpreting the results using this document:
Your mount appears to have some mechanical problems in Dec - a large reversal delay and evidence of stiction on the axis.  You're using a large compensation value for the PHD2 Dec backlash compensation algorithm but with mechanical problems like you have, there are likely to be individual situations when things don't work quite as you would hope.  In this specific case, the dither command wanted to create a move of 1.9 pixels in Dec but that also triggered a Dec reversal and a large compensation pulse (Dec in green):

Dec_Dither.jpg

This resulted in a larger move, 3.3 pixels rather than 1.9.  You can see this resulted in multiple Dec guide corrections followed by an over-shoot in Dec - the latter caused by static resistance (stiction) on the Dec axis.  All of this took longer than the 30 seconds you chose as the timeout period, so the settling "failed".

After confirming the mount is well-balanced in Dec, you may need to seek mechanical improvements in Dec to improve your results.

Bruce
