PHD v2.0.5c; Mac OSX 10.8.4.

Camera gain control in "brain" not working. No change.
The same as for PHD 1.14.2. Have mailed Craig before.

Thomas, I entered this as Issue 100 so we can track it.

I think I may have seen this in the KWIK Guider code too, but wasn't able to reproduce it at the time.  I have a hunch what may be going on.  If all the contractors ravaging my basement will leave me alone, I will try to take a look.

Yes, pray for me, we are remodeling.  My wife gets to go SOMEPLACE ELSE to work.

I also am having problems in PHD 2 with the orion SSAG camera gain.  However, in my case the gain control seems to work
at times, but the camera seems to require about twice to 3 times the exposure time to get a usable star as it does in  1.14.2.
I have been running Phd 2  r418.  When it guides it is much nicer to use and gives you so much information.

I have just downloaded the beta and will see if the camera responds better with that.

One question .   1.14.2 will give me a guide star image at practically any setting of .5 sec or up without a dark.
I rarely can get any guide star in PHD 2 until I have done a dark.  Coupled with the difference in sensitivity this
usually means taking multiple darks at different times trying to get a guide star.  It also seems to lose the star
more easily than phd 1.

I was able to overcome the problem with the SSAG gain by using the Reset configuration check box in the
brain (global) setup, and clicking the OK box.    Apparently some value from the  install was not being set properly
even if the install was just completed. After clicking the reset box and restarting PHD2 the camera gain for the SSAG
seems to work properly and  now seems to be nearly the same in PHD 1 and 2.

Since I had previously installed an alpha version without the windows installer and the 1.14.2 version, perhaps
there was some value transferred over to the new program?  I also tried to deinstall the Alpha (with no change to camera
gains) first.

So, with a fresh install, it might be best to select this global reset as a general rule of thumb to make sure no garbage
is affecting things before trying any guiding.

In PHD2 v2.21 I also see that my Starshoot Autoguider does not respond to changes in the gain setting (1% to 95%)  under the brain icon.  I tried checking the "reset configuration" and restarting, to no effect. I am running MacOSX 10.10.4, but the same problem occurs in windows 8.1, as well as PHD1. For the record, I am performing these tests in daylight using an Orion ST80. To avoid blasting the camera I have stopped down the aperture from 3.1" to about 0.125".  Any help in resolving this issue would be appreciated.

Hi William,

It's usually better to start a new thread rather than adding on to a thread that has been dormant for nearly two years. A lot changes in two years.

Anyway, you are using a very old version of PHD2. The latest release version is 2.5.0 available at http://openphdguiding.org/   I would recommend you update to the latest release. If you still see any problems, please start a new thread and be sure to provide your debug log and a description of exactly what you did and what you saw (or did not see) that led you to conclude that the gain setting was not working. You could even save images (File => Save Image) with various gain settings and use a FITS file viewer (like FITS Liberator) to check that the pixel values are higher with higher gain.

Hi there, I know I should not answer to old/dead threads, but I hardly find any other information to solve that problem anywhere: SSAG on PHD 2.2 or 2.6 does not allow to change camera gain settings, do any of you guys have solved the problem? Reset of any type did not work!

Hello lostindimcarcosa,

This thread is from 2013. Please post your question in a new discussion topic, and please provide your PHD2 debug log for us to look at, preferably from a current version of phd2 (release or dev version). Log file instructions are here: Getting Help.
