Hi all,

I'm about to loose it... I just can't seem to get the driver for my iOptron CEM25p mount working so PHD2 picks it up. I've refreshed all firmware to the latest versions, my iOptron commander, ASCOM driver, ASCOM platform, PHD2 itself, the lot.

I can control the mount succesfully through the iOptron commander tool and have it point to any selected target with Stellarium and StellariumScope, so the USB/COM port communication between laptop and mount is working 100% fine. But PHD2 can't seem to get any command sent succesfully to the mount.

Any bright idea's what I'm overlooking? First time user here so no previous experience or working setups with my equipment.

Have you tried using an ASCOM driver?

Not sure what exactly you are using to connect, but you need ascom connection, install the ascom driver

If you use stellarium at the same time, you also need to use the ascom driver, or stellarium will take exclusive control of the mount and not allow any other connections.

Thanks for your replies!

@rhody...@gmail.com:
Yes, as mentioned in my post I've re-installed the lastest versions but still no joy. In the attached images you see all my currently installed ASCOM drivers.

I also tried without Stellarium just to make sure it does not interfere but no change here. I'm connecting using a windows laptop running PHD2, USB to RS232 cable, to the hand controller connected to the mount. I can control the mount just fine like this. The link you provide is to a different type of mount than mine, but i have all installed listed on that page for my mount.

Kind regards,
Mike.

I installed the Ioptron driver and got this option, which is the one you should choose

(your specific wording may be different depending on mount type)

Hi Mike.  In your first message, you showed a screen shot of the PHD2 Equipment dialog which had no ASCOM drivers of any kind.  That can mean one of several things:

  1. The ASCOM mount drivers aren’t installed – based on your other comments, I doubt this is the case
  2. Something failed in the installation process which did not allow the drivers to register correctly with Windows
  3. You made the mistake of running the ASCOM installer “as Admin” but are running PHD2 in normal user mode or with a different user account.  ASCOM software should not be installed “as Admin” nor should PHD2.  I don’t know if Stellarium insists on being run with those elevated permissions.  If it does, you will have to run everything that way.

You can verify the correct registration of the various ASCOM drivers by running the ASCOM diagnostics tool that is part of the platform package.

Good luck,

Bruce

@Brian:
I guess its just installing the driver and it shows up in the mount pulldown? no need to import or anything? Because I just can't get anything else to show besides the defaults that you see in my screnshot.

@Bruce:
Correct, but the ASCOM drivers are installed according to windows as you can see in my other screenshot. But maybe incorrect or incomplete as you point out, this could be possible although I did not get any error messages during install, and I've installed them several times by now. I do have the habit of installing software "as admin"... I'll un-install everything and have another attempt by installing it all as regular user. Good tip, thanks.

Thanks a lot,
Mike.
