Been looking on the web for assistance regarding issues I am having with PHD guiding connected to an older Celestron Advanced GT mount.  I have a Meade and a SkyWatcher that both have used PHD with the same guide camera and I am not having issues.  However, the same guide camera and guide scope mounted on a Newtonian affixed to the GT mount produces errors.  “RA star did not move enough” as I recall.  I have checked the guide scope’s and guide camera’s specs and they are entered correctly into the program.  The telescope is all balanced in the GT.  However, I think the issue is either with ASCOM drivers or the fact that, in the program’s selection flyout for the Mount box, there is no listing for a Celestron Advanced GT mount.  I must pick Generic Hub (ASCOM).  I have all ASCOM drivers installed and working fine with other mounts.  I do not use the “On-camera" ST-4 cord but I have tried it and I get the same error.  The Advanced GT hand controller is connected to the laptop via the USB cable from the hand controller’s mini-USB plug.  Oh, COM ports have also been verified.  I have adjusted the mount’s RA and Dec gears to eliminate any gear meshing slop.  So, I do not understand what the issue is.  Same program works fine on the other two mounts.  I will admit though, that my Meade LX200GPS, a forked mounted mount on a wedge, did give me errors until I got it properly balanced and did away with the ST-4 cable.  What do you think the problem is with the Celestron Advanced GT mount?  Any suggestions on settings?

You need to figure out the correct ASCOM driver for your mount, ‘Generic’ isn’t going to cut it.  To do that, check on the Celestron-specific forums.  Once you know what it is, you’ll have to download and install that driver and get it configured, after which PHD2 will show that driver name (not the telescope model name) in the drop-down list.  You also need to make sure the PHD2 profile for your new setup has accurate values for focal length and mount guide speed.

Good luck,

Bruce

Thank you for the reply.  I will search for that information or call Celestron for it.
