Hello
I have two ASI cameras which show up in the cameras drop-down menu as ASI Camera(1) ASCOM and ASI Camera(2) ASCOM and I want to change the names to the actual cameras.  I have attempted to open the ASCOM Profile Explorer and I was able to change the name of ASI Camera(1) ASCOM to ASI294MC Pro in the Default Value Data column of the ASCOM Profile Explorer.  Now, when I open SGP I can now see that the camera shows up as ASI294Pro.  However, when I open PHD2 in the camera drop-down menu I still only see ASI Camera(1) ASCOM and ASI Camera(2) ASCOM.   Is there a way to change this?

Thanks
Walter

Hi Walter

i don't think you can

also I'm not sure that's a good idea. I have two ZWO cameras on one scope. sometimes if a camera is acting up, it won't connect ASI camera (!) will revert to the connected camera. If it was named 294MC Pro (or whatever) you may be mislead into believing that's the connected camera

Another possibility is you can use the built-in zwo driver within PHD2 if that helps clarify your setups

Thanks, Brian

That's unfortunate, it sure would make life easier if you could identify each camera easily without having to open the settings box each time you connect to the cameras.

Walter I totally agree, it’s an nuisance, and sometimes it’s really caused me some lost time when cameras didn’t connect correctly and I had spend time investigating camera connections more than was needed imo.

I think it’s really a ZWO thing, as they have struggled with how to handle multiple cameras and identifying them.

Andy or Bruce may have more thoughts here, as they’ve worked with ZWO on related things in the past

Thanks

Hi Walter,

Brian is right, this is a ZWO ASCOM driver issue, not something that PHD2 has control over.

When you use the ASCOM driver, PHD2 only can see "Camera 1" and "Camera 2" and the ZWO ASCOM driver is what determines which is which.  I noticed that the ZWO ASCOM driver setup provides what looks like a way to identify the camera.   I have not tried this myself, but maybe you could give it a try. You can post in the ZWO support forum for more info.  Here is how to get to the ASCOM driver setup window:

Like Brian says, the other option would be to use the built-in (non-ASCOM) ZWO camera support ("ZWO ASI Camera"), then you can click the forked-arrow button and select a specific camera that PHD2 will always connect to:

Thanks Andy! I never noticed the edit button next to the camera select drop down menu... I’ll give that a try
