I am new to PHD2 and autoguiding.  I have installed my Altair CPCAM2 130M drivers on my Windows 7 laptop.  I installed the AltairCapture software and able to connect to the camera and adjust gain, exposure, time.

I exit AltairCapture and start up PHD2 2.6.5.  When I select 'Connect Equipment' there is a selection for Altair Camera and I select that, however, the Camera Settings button beside the brain is grayed out and I am not able to adjust my camera.  Any thoughts?

Thanks

I just wanted to add, I can connect to the camera in PHD2 and there is a green button to show all devices connected (camera and mount).

In the "Connect Equipment" box, I when I disconnect the camera and click on the 'Camera setup' button, the only option under settings is "Reduce resolution (by 20%)

Hi Rob.  You should be able to control those kinds of parameters through the camera tab of the Advanced Dialog (brain) in PHD2.  Connect to the camera first, then go to that tab to see what options are available.  Exposure time is set from the main window in PHD2 but device properties like gain and binning are set in the Advanced Dialog. What’s available is determined by the underlying driver.

Hope this helps,

Bruce

Thanks for the responses.  As I mentioned in my original post, I exited AltairCapture before launching PHD2 and I definitely have not had this running.  I have also tried shutting everything down and rebooting.

I did have the ST-4 cable from the camera connected but I have since unplugged it from the mount.  When the camera is 'connected' in PHD2, The 'camera setup' button is grayed out and so is the camera settings button beside the Brain.  When I disconnect the camera, I can click on the camera setup button but the only option is "Reduce resolution (by 20%)".  The camera settings button beside the Brain is still grayed out regardless whether the camera is connected or not.

When I look at the specific properties they are 3.75, the gain 95 and unresponsiveness set to 25.

When I launch AltairCapture I can take an image so I know the camera and drivers work on the laptop.

Hi Rob, I guess I don’t understand the problem at this point.  Are you saying you can’t take images with PHD2?  In other words, have you set the PHD2 exposure time and clicked on the ‘loop’ button?  Are you seeing errors?  Sorry, I’m lost at this point.

In PHD2 I can't adjust the exposure or the gain for the camera.  That is my problem,

The camera settings button is grey out,  There is a camera settings button beside the Brain button and also a camera setup button beside the 'Connect' button in the 'Connect Equipment' window, also grey out when the camera is connected.

Rob,

The exposure setting is at the bottom of the main screen. Gain and other camera settings are available if you click the brain button, then go to the camera tab.

That slider at the bottom of the screen says 'screen gamma (brightness), not camera exposure.

Hi Rob.  I really think you’d benefit from reading some of the documentation, at least the ‘Basic Use’ section.. The help is available on line or under the Help menu of PHD2.

At the bottom of my screen is an icon beside 'thr Brain' icon that says 'Camera Settings'.  It is grayed out.

Thank you for taking the time to map all that out for me.  I automatically assumed there was going to be an interface with sliders like the Altair capture program that came with the camera.  Add to that the grayed out buttons, I ran with that.  Thanks once again and to everyone else that participated.
