Hi,

Debug log attached: https://openphdguiding.org/logs/dl/PHD2_logs_gKRg.zip
You can see an issue at 19:58:01.442

Equipment: Mount NEQ6pro via Green Swamp Server
Guide Camera: ASI290MMmini

Guiding will be working just fine, sending guid pulses as usual, but then i'll notice (with no error in PHD2) the pulses just stop and the normal RA drift starts happening.  The only way i have found to fix it is close phd2 and greenswamp server, restart them and start guiding again.

looking in the debug logs when it happens i see this
19:58:01.442 00.000 15396 Still moving after 1s - aborting
19:58:01.442 00.000 15396 Error thrown from C:\cygwin\home\Andy\projects\phd2-build-20251209-235857\src\scope_ascom.cpp:560->ASCOM Scope: scope is still moving after 1 second

i was not able to find anything about the error thrown from myframe_events.cpp

is this an issue with my mount, or green swamp server or any idea what is going on?

Hi Franklin

the issue is happening multiple times in your guidelog. The mount basically stops responding, and as your log excerpt shows, there's an alert you disabled that says the pulse guide has failed.

Suppressed alert:  PulseGuide command to mount has failed - guiding is likely to be ineffective.

here's a typical sequence of events, let's pick the first one at 18:43 (green arrow below)
after a period of typical guiding, the mount returned control sooner than expected:

18:43:54.835 00.001 12808 MoveAxis(W, 6, ABG)
18:43:54.835 00.000 12808 Guiding  Dir = 3, Dur = 6
18:43:54.835 00.000 12808 IsGuiding returns 0
18:43:54.835 00.000 12808 PulseGuide returned control before completion, sleep 16

this continues with the Dec
18:43:54.860 00.000 12808 MoveAxis(N, 126, ABG)
18:43:54.860 00.000 12808 Guiding  Dir = 0, Dur = 126
18:43:54.861 00.001 12808 IsGuiding returns 0
18:43:54.861 00.000 12808 PulseGuide returned control before completion, sleep 136

after this, the mount appears hung, reporting it's still trying to complete a move, which goes on until you restart the mount,
18:44:03.377 00.007 12808 IsGuiding returns 1
18:44:03.377 00.000 12808 Still moving
(many dozens of similar messages like this follow)

at this point any subsequent guiding is effectively disabled, as you can see:

The problem is not within PHD, it's somewhere within the software or the mount connection to the software. I would check the logs for GSS and see what it may tell you about this problem.

The behavior seems pretty consistent and repeating, and restarting seems to resolve it, so that suggests to me a software issue rather than hardware/cabling. If it's specific to certain angles, it could be a cable snag or other issue (the gss logs would hopefully uncover this).

On a minor point, consider creating and using a dark library for your guide camera

Hi Brian,

Thanks for the very quick response!!  I will do exactly that (and try EQMOD) to rule out other issues.  At least I know it isn't PHD2.  Quick Question, where do i reset that error message suppression so i can see it in the future?

Frank
