Got my iOptron CEM 70 EC2 today!   Eager to see how well it tracks (and guides to whatever extent needed).  Since I have one shot weather wise to check before an event, am I on the right track here:

1.  New profile
2.  In the wizard, clicked the box that says both axes have high precision encoders
3.  darks ofcourse
4.  Run standard calibration
5.  Set guiding output off, and observe tracking behavior for say 30 mins - or roughly 8 worm cycles
6.   If satisfactory tracking, then guiding wise -- perhaps look for 1.5 sec exposure with a 4 second delay, with an objective of correcting drift?   low aggression settings initially, then move up a bit if needed?   Any value to using a guiding assistant?

TYIA!

your best bet is to do a baseline guidelog by following the steps in the attached PDF

TY.  ok yes I have this document.   Will guiding assistant suggest a low aggression, 5 second ish guiding pulse or will it initially treat the mount as standard with no high precision encoders?

You are evaluating two separate things

First is how well the mount tracks. The PDF guide will help you do that. To some extent the resulting guided output will be interesting, but probably not appropriate for fine-tuning guiding.

Second is fine-tuning guiding. If your mount is a true dual axis absolute encoder, after you complete the above I would follow these steps for setting up guiding of an encoder mount:

It's specific to AP mounts, but the general setup is applicable to any encoder mount

ok ty.  I believe these are relative not absolute, but I will read thru.

TY,

Sanjeev
