Guide scope versus OAG issue after Meridian Flip

With the guide scope calibrated, I never ran into an issue with PHD2 telling the guider the flip occurred and for the guider to pick up appropriate guiding after the meridian Flip.

I just switched to the OAG and calibrated, but after a Meridian Flip  corrections are now in the wrong direction and guiding fails.  

1.  I know my mount EQ6R tells phd2 pier side.  I use GSS for guiding interface and my logs show side of pier.

2. Calibration on west side OAG show West angle 92 North angle 0.  After recalibration East side, West Angle 92 and North Angle 180.

3.  On guiding settings, I do not have the REVERSE DEC OUTPUT MERIDIAN FLIP checked as I never had it checked for a guide scope and phd2 says not to check it if your mount communications the flip.

What am I missing?  Should the reverse DEC be checked since I am using an OAG?  Any assistance in understanding this issue is appreciated.

Hi Greg.  Please send your PHD2 log files and identify an approximate time when you did the meridian flip.  We need to be sure the problem is what you think it is so you don’t end up wasting time.

Here is the log.  Approximate time of flip was between 2052-2104.  I calibrated before the session and had to recalibrate after the flip.

This log file is from 2/21/2021 and shows only 3 guiding sessions, all from the west side of the pier.  And no calibrations.  So I think you sent us the wrong log.  We also want to see the matching debug log file so we can see what calibration adjustments were made when you did the meridian flip.  In general, using an OAG has no effect on any of this unless there is also a rotator or the OAG is rotated manually.  If you use the built-in log upload mechanism in PHD2, this will all be easier – just be careful to pick the correct dates.

I think you are probably confused about how the ‘reverse dev output after meridian flip’ option works:

PHD2 doesn’t tell you how to set this option and it has nothing to do with whether the mount reports side-of-pier, whether you’re using an OAG or a guide scope, none of that. It depends on how the ASCOM mount driver and the mount firmware work.  There is no way for PHD2 to know what the correct setting is, that’s up to you.  Looking at the log files, it appears to be set wrong.  Please use the PHD2 wizard located under Tools/Calibrate Meridian Flip.  If you do exactly what it says, every step, without trying to take short-cuts, you will get the right answer and this problem will be behind you.  If you try to outsmart the wizard or take shortcuts, you could be fighting with it all night. J

Great, I can do that.    It was confusing as I used auto-meridian flip with a guide scope and never encountered any issues during all night auto-imaging for several years.  It was only after switching to the OAG this last week that the problem arose after a flip.  Thank you for you help on this.  I will use the "calibrate Meridian Flip".  :)
