I've created a new NB imaging rig for the backyard and it works great when imaging Pier East (I'm in Australia).  But when imaging pier west the Dec ends up running away and won't come back.  I've attached the guide log from last night where i though perhaps I had fixed it by dbl checking my RA and DEC balance and cable routing but then after about 5mins it when off again to the south.  At this stage I'm confined to imaging only the western half of the sky so I'd like to see if anyone has any ideas on what I should check.  I pointed the scope in a few different orientations so the guide logs showed the good and the bad.  I'm hoping its something simple that I'm missing or a setting I've not come across yet.

Thanks

In order for us to give you a definitive answer, you would need to follow the 'Getting Help' instructions and post both the guide and debug log files:
Lacking that information, I can make an educated guess that you haven't set the option for 'Reverse Dec output after meridian flip' (Advanced Settings/Guiding tab).  The GSServer ASCOM driver requires that to be set while other drivers such as EQMOD do not.

Bruce

Thanks Bruce - that was the problem.  I was hoping it was something as simple as that.  I thought I had gone back to EQMOD to check if it was driver related and ruled it out, but admittedly that was in the middle of having the flu and not being completely in the right frame of mind.

Bruce:
I find that to pass conformU the driver must do the reversal internally.  When it does, the check box must be checked.  I was curious as to whether the PHD2 default setting for the check box should be "checked" as that corresponds to newer, conformu compliant, driver mount control.

That’s a fair question and I’m on the fence about it.  A large number of existing  mounts and drivers from long-established companies don’t behave this way so changing the default would appear to be a “breaking change” for users of those mounts.  But I’ll give it some thought, maybe we will make the change a bit further down the road.  It’s a bit complicated because most users have no idea about how their mounts work in this respect so we can’t simply ask the question in the wizard.

Thanks,

Bruce

Bruce:

I wanted to be sure I understand the PHD requirement for users setting the Reverse DEC check box.  My understanding is, that while the Wizard is the sure fire way to get things set correctly, in our case we know the box must be checked.  So what I want to advise our users is to check the box, and then re-calibrate their guiding.  This will take care of the situation.  Correct?

Thanks,
Wes.

Yes.  Probably the best instructions would be to run the new-profile-wizard, build the dark libraries if needed, check the ‘Reverse’ checkbox, run the Calibration Assistant, run the Guiding Assistant and apply its recommendations, then proceed with guiding.
