Hello,

I know many posts about meridian flip and yet here is one more.
Every time the mount performs a flip dec or ra goes crazy, last night was the RA, after the flip between 00:40 and 1:20 i had the error and day before also between 08:30 and 09:00 and day before probably between 21:0 and 22:00 and I am gussing that because it was tthe time the objects I was imaging were about to cross the Meridian (Monkey head nebula, IC405 Flaming star nebula and yesterday Bodes Galaxy)
I have tried with the reverse dec selected and not selected and it did not work.
It works if I calibrate after the flip, but I dont think I should do that all the time.

Here is the link to my logs:

Maybe a smart soul will be able to tell me whats wrong.

Hi Marcelo.  Your problem is that EQMOD, your ASCOM mount driver, isn’t reporting the side-of-pier value.  So PHD2 has no idea that a meridian flip has occurred and can’t know how to adjust the calibration.  This is probably an EQMOD setting that is wrong or maybe you’re running an ancient version of EQMOD – hundreds if not thousands of EQMOD users don’t have this problem.  You need to configure EQMOD properly – you can start with these instructions:

https://github.com/OpenPHDGuiding/phd2/wiki/EQASCOM-Settings

In the EQMOD ASCOM Setup window, be sure that the ‘SideOfPier’ choice is set to ‘Pointing(ASCOM)’.  Once you think things are set correctly, connect to the mount and open the PHD2 ‘Stats’ window (View/Display Stats) and look in the scrollable window area – it will show the current ‘Pier Side’ as reported by the driver.  If it says ‘Unknown’, you still have the problem.

Good luck,

Bruce

One other thing I should have added.  There's probably a 50% chance that you've now set the 'Reverse Dec output after meridian flip' option in PHD2 incorrectly.  I think it should be 'off' for EQ mounts.  But once you've fixed the first problem, use the PHD2 wizard to figure it out, being sure to follow all the instructions carefully.  That's under the 'Tools' menu in PHD2.

Hello Bruce,

Thanks for the quick reply, I have now changed the ASCOM settings and I am right now just waiting for some clouds to clear so I can test.
This is how it looks now. Do I leave the Meridian Flip set in ASCOM because in the instructions it is not.

That’s up to you.  You have to decide how you want to invoke a meridian flip, it has nothing to do with PHD2.  I think most people leave this off because they want their imaging app to control when the M/F is done – for example, not in the middle of an exposure.  Whatever you decide, it should only be controlled in one place by one app to avoid chaos.

Great thanks.
Yes I got it desabled in EQMOD and now SGP is showing how long to the MF, so now I will be waiting about 35 min to see if works.
Thanks again.

Don’t forget to run the PHD2 Meridian Flip wizard first.  Otherwise, you’re like to get all balled up with the ‘Reverse Dec…’ option.
