Recalibrate PHD2 after rotating?

Hi, I use the Planewave IRF90 rotator.  When I rotate the image, should I recalibrate PHD2?  I am wondering because I noticed that I can attach the rotator driver to PHD2 when I start it up.  Will PHD2 automatically make appropriate adjustments to the calibration as the rotator is used, so that it is not necessary to recalibrate?

To a point.  Search the Documentation for 'rotator'

Yes, you should connect the rotator in PHD2.  Then it comes down to whether the imaging app and the rotator driver follow the ASCOM standard for specifying the direction of rotation.  If they don’t, there’s an option in PHD2 to reverse the direction – that’s in the Advanced Settings dialog on the ‘Other Devices’ tab.  You can just do a simple test to see if you need to change the setting.  Do a fresh calibration, then guide long enough to be sure things are working.  Then rotate the guider by a substantial amount, e.g. 40 degrees.  Then restart guiding and see what happens.  If the guiding goes badly, stop the guiding, change the setting, and repeat the test.  When all this is set up correctly, you won’t need to re-calibrate PHD2 when the rotator is moved.

Regards,

Bruce

Hi E M

I have the IRF90. You want to connect the rotator to PHD, it will then automatically compensate for rotation and you do not need to recalibrate

That sounds great.  I had a feeling that was the case, as PHD2 seems to be able to do everything.  Thank you!
