First time poster and so glad to see that there are knowledgeable people that may assist

I have been doing AP for a year now and fot the 50mm Orion finder scope and SSAG autoguider. I run these on a win7 64bit system which did proof a bit of a challenge to get the SSAG connected.

I then set the EQMOD to st4 guiding. On the handset I changed auto guiding rate to 1x.

Camera connect fine but when I try and connect the mount I get an error "Mount does not support pulseguiding interface". It is as if the software is expecting me to pulse guide but I actually want to guide via ST4.

Any ideas on why it would give me this error? Are there some tricks to setting up EQMOD that I may have missed? Is it perhaps a driver issue?

My mount is a NEQ6Pro

Hope anyone can help.

Regards

Coenie

Hi Coenie,

To guide with ST4 you would select On-camera for your mount.  Lots of good information about this in the Equipment Connection section of the help file.

To use Pulse Guiding and guide through EQASCOM, you need to enable Pulse Guiding in the EQMOD ASCOM setup window.

If you decide to go with ST4 ("On-camera") for guiding, it's a good idea to select the EQMOD ASCOM driver as your Aux Mount since that will allow PHD2 to know where your scope is pointing.  If you use EQMOD ASCOM as your mount (Pulse Guiding) you do not need the Aux Mount.

Thanks so much Andy!

Solution before I even went to bed.

I have set up and will print out that manual to study it a bit.Unfortunately I will only be able to test later in the week.

Just a tag on question. While guiding in what I presume were pulse guiding mode, for 40 sec the guiding went smooth <4". then it starts to just go into a straight climb. I stop when it pass 16". Could this be due to the fact that the tracking messages are not reaching the mount or being interpreted?

Coenie,

Yes, right, it's probably safe to assume that guide corrections were not reaching the mount.  When in doubt you can use the Manual Guide tool to see if PHD2 can get the guide star to move.

Thanks Andy

I am hopeful that on the next try with everything set up as it should be (RTFM : - ) ), that I will get guiding.

Thanks for all the great work you and the other authors has put into this superb product!

Hi Coenie.  If you do spend the time to “RTFM” <g>, please let us know where it comes up short.  What seems obvious to us can still be a mystery to people who are just getting started.  It’s not like this stuff is simple…

Good luck.

Bruce

Hi Bruce

The manual is just fine and very well written.

I think what caused me to trip up a bit is the fact that I never before tried to guide. This results in a lot of technical terms and descriptions which you read but do not tie it back to what it is actually referring to.

Thanks for an awesome piece of software guys!
